With over 30 years of experience, Houlder has been involved in a wide range of vessel design, construction modifications and refit work. Clients include Wightlink, Caledonian MacBrayne, Gosport Ferry Company, P&O Ferries, Condor Ferries and Carnival Cruises. The company has developed particular expertise in green technology such as LNG and electro-diesel propulsion. Current examples include the the Wightlink G Class and Caledonian MacBrayne Dual Fuel Ferries under construction.
Our marine and structural engineers have designed and overseen projects on numerous vessels that have included deck extensions, ship to shore infrastructure, ballast water treatment equipment and engine scrubbers. This has included a wide range of design and analysis deliverables up to and including Classification Society approvals.
We also regularly perform Lightship surveys on vessels of all sizes. We can dispatch a team of Naval Architects to undertake a deadweight survey to determine the current lightweight from an audit of added and deducted weights. An inclining experiment can then be carried out on the vessel and, with a combination of data from the Lightship survey and the inclining experiment, we can run simulations to check the vessels condition and update the stability book.
With our wide range of expertise we can also make suggestions on the best way to ensure the vessel complies with any breaches to regulatory requirements to ensure minimal disruption to service.
